Gunung Semeru mengalami erupsi dengan memuntahkan kolom abu setinggi 1.000 meter di atas puncak kawah pada Minggu pagi, 6 September 2026.

Aktivitas vulkanik tersebut terjadi bersamaan dengan kebakaran hutan dan lahan di lereng gunung yang telah meluas hingga lebih dari 3.000 hektare.

Pihak Taman Nasional Bromo Tengger Semeru menutup total seluruh jalur pendakian demi keselamatan pengunjung dan petugas.

Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah mengimbau warga mewaspadai hujan abu vulkanik serta potensi ancaman banjir lahar dingin akibat tumpukan material erupsi.

Saat ini status Gunung Semeru masih berada di Level III Siaga sehingga masyarakat dilarang beraktivitas dalam radius bahaya yang telah ditentukan.
